At 3 weeks of age our Champions begin training to become assistance dogs. It begins with lots of play, sensory activities and basic obedience. It is such a privilege to train these incredible animals. Most Champions finish their training at 2 years when maturity kicks in. We have lots of amazing volunteers who help us with the care and training, and our foster families give them something we cannot, a home of their own.
We have learned to stretch a dollar a long way but it will cost $29,000 to train each Champion to go on to launch a hero. We receive no government funding and NDIS does not cover assistance dogs- at this point.
There are so many deserving children on our waiting list and we want to do our part in helping as many children with Autism and Type 1-Diabetes that we can. But, its true money doesn’t grow on trees (if only!) so we need people and businesses to support our work and partner with us to train and place more Champion assistance dogs.
